Incentives and financing, explained.

What’s available changed in 2026. Here’s what still applies to you, and how to pay for the rest.

What’s available

The incentives that still apply.

Everyone

Net metering

Credits for the surplus power you send to the grid. They don’t expire, and roll forward month to month.

Solar owners

MA SMART 3.0

A Massachusetts incentive paid on the power your system produces.

Homeowners

MA state tax credit

A $1,000 Massachusetts income tax credit for homeowners who install solar.

Battery owners

ConnectedSolutions

Seasonal payments for letting the utility draw on your battery at peak times. Works with or without solar.

Businesses and leases

Federal tax credit (48E)

30% of the system cost, with adders that can stack higher. Commercial and leased systems, through 2027.

Businesses

Depreciation (MACRS)

Accelerated depreciation on the system as a business asset, on top of the credit.

The federal tax credit for homeowners who own their system (25D) ended on 31 December 2025. A leased system still qualifies for 48E through 2027, claimed by the leasing company.

Ways to pay

Four ways to pay.

Cash

Pay for it outright.

  • Paid in three installments.
  • The lowest total cost.
  • You own the system and keep every incentive.

Solar loan

Own it, with nothing down.

  • You own the system and keep the incentives.
  • No prepayment penalty. Pay it off whenever you want.
  • Roof work can be rolled into the same loan.

Hybrid loan/lease

Part loan, part lease.

  • The Propel Prepaid Lease, a hybrid between a solar loan and a traditional lease.
  • Full transparency on your project cost.
  • Your exact purchase and buyout amount, from day one.

Lease

Pay a fixed rate for the power.

  • A third party owns the system, and you pay a fixed rate for the power it makes.
  • Nothing down.
  • The right to buy the system outright at year 5.
  • The leasing company keeps the incentives.

If your own bank can beat solar loan rates, we’ll tell you to use it.

We handle

  • The interconnection application with your utility.
  • Town permits.
  • Scheduling the inspections.
  • No payment to us until your job is ready to install.

You claim

  • Any tax credit, on your own tax return.
  • It arrives after you file, not at install.
